Tim was doing well by anyone’s standards; his efforts had been meeting pretty high targets to the outside world and even sometimes exceeding them. He was making some of the most meaningful music, he had a few roles in movies on the side, and was making impacts doing philanthropic endeavors. But on the inside, he wasn’t doing well. Tim was 40 pounds heavier than he should have been, his energy levels were unpredictable, dipping at times to sluggish levels of fatigue. His immune system became weak, and he was getting sick too often.

Tim started drinking beer to feel good. Reality dawned on him when his blood pressure became high. At this point, his daughter Gracie complained about his weight, and his wife, Faith, told him, “partying or family, take your pick.” Tim decided to turn his situation around. He stopped drinking and began exercising daily. To meet his daily exercise goal, he decided to do something physical every morning for six weeks. To start, Tim began taking walks. As he took his walks daily, he noticed how beneficial walking was to his body. After a while, he graduated to running. He’d run 20 minutes, then do some sit-ups and push-ups. After 6 weeks, his extra weight started to drop off.
⚡️ The path to good health can feel like one step forward and one step back at times.
As working out became a priority, Tim started having more time for his wife and daughters. After a while, he met Roger Yuan, a former competitive martial artist. Roger helped Tim transform his body through a well-rounded style of functional fitness. Tim grew stronger and faster and new possibilities started to open up to him.
Getting healthy and fit is a bit like a marriage — you have to move beyond the initial infatuation, make a public commitment, and then show up to the relationship every day. You’ve got to have some friends helping you stay on track through the rough patches and trust that even when it’s hard, the total of your efforts will endure and sustain you like almost nothing else.
