Getting rid of oligarchy requires the collective effort of every American willing to see a change
When Robert Reich, the author, went around Michigan, Wisconsin, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Missouri, and North Carolina, he met with some people he had met twenty years ago. Two decades ago, those people were frustrated that they weren’t doing better despite working hard, but now, their frustrations had moved from not getting enough to not being able to save enough. Almost all of them now believed that the system was rigged against them and that they were powerless to do anything about it.
A lot of Americans no longer believe in the government and the few who do continue to, get disappointed daily. When Donald Trump campaigned to be president, he harnessed the frustration of the middle and lower-class Americans. He promised to work for them and disband the power of the oligarchy, but all he did was strengthen it.
If Americans want to get rid of oligarchy, they need to find someone who doesn’t belong to the class of selfish oligarchs.
The Democrats must find a way to find someone who truly believes in saving the middle and lower-class Americans.
Unless they do so, Americans will continue to fall for Trump’s authoritarianism and egomaniac charisma.
Oligarchy cannot last forever. The beneficiaries know this, and that’s why they are adopting various types of tactics to hold on to power. Some of these tactics include:
- Systems of belief
- Bribery and corruption
- Manufactured threats
They use these methods to divert the people’s attention from the real issues on ground, causing hatred and creating invisible enemies.
⚡️The collective responsibility of everyone is more powerful than the power wielded by the wealthiest people in a nation.
Politicians need to be held accountable for their actions, and the people need to resist the urge to give up.
The challenge is tough and hard, but by actively participating in politics, the people can change the way of democracy and overcome oligarchy. Democracy can only prevail if people fight for it. If Americans intend to wrestle their financial freedom from the hands of the selfish wealthy people controlling the nation, then they must never back down even in the face of oppression.
“Education is a public good that builds the capacity of a nation to wisely govern itself, and promotes equal opportunity.”
Robert B. Reich
